Regular Season Round 32: Huracanes - Abejas 102-88

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Abejas (20-9) against seventh ranked Huracanes (15-12) on Saturday night. Visiting Abejas were defeated by Huracanes in Tampico 102-88. The game was mostly controlled by Huracanes. Abejas was better in third quarter 27-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Huracanes dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Abejas' 48. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American swingman Cliff Tucker (198, college: Maryland) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. Dominican power forward Elys Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) contributed with 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-89, college: W.Kentucky) replied with 26 points and 5 rebounds and Venezuelan Nestor Colmenares (203-87, college: Campbellsville) added 23 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Abejas. Five Huracanes and four Abejas players scored in double figures. Abejas' coach Daniel Jaule rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Huracanes have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 15-12 record. Abejas at the other side dropped to the fourth place with nine games lost. Huracanes will play against Halcones UV Xalapa (#9) on the road in the next round. Abejas will play against Gigantes (#11) in Toluca and hope to get back on the winning track.
