Regular Season Round 9: Leganes - Gernika 65-74

LF2 top team - Gernika (9-0) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat ninth ranked Leganes (3-6) 74-65. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Leganes won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gernika made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. American center Britany Miller (193-87, college: Florida St.) nailed 17 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and center Patricia Valiente (185-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas) accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. Guard Estela Rubio (172-86) came up with 13 points and 6 rebounds and guard Alba Maria Garcia (173-90) added 10 points respectively for Leganes in the defeat. Leganes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Gernika. They maintain first place in Group B with 9-0 record. Loser Leganes dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with Tenerife and Dist.Olimpico. Gernika will meet at home IF Air Europa (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Leganes will play against Araski AES and hope to secure a win.
