Date: January 11, 2014
Everything went according to plan in Belo Horizonte where third ranked Pinheiros (10-4) beat 13th ranked Minas (4-8) 75-66. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Pinheiros had a 31-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international power forward Mineiro Ferreira (208-88) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Elinho Corazza (193-89, college: Miami Dade CC) answered with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals and Douglas Nunes (201-87) added 20 points in the effort for Minas. Minas' coach Carlos Romano rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Pinheiros moved-up to second place, which they share with Paulistano. Minas at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with eight games lost. Pinheiros' next round opponent will be Espirito Santo (#15) in Vila Velha which should be an easy win for them. Minas will play at home against Palmeiras and hope to win that game.
