Regular Season Round 23: Boulazac - Poitiers 77-81

Date: January 11, 2014
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Poitiers and 12th ranked Boulazac Basket had identical 10-12 record. But Boulazac Basket was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Poitiers 81-77. It looked good early as Boulazac Basket took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. Then Poitiers had a 23-14 second period charge getting the lead and Boulazac Basket was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 77-81. 24 personal fouls committed by Boulazac Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American-British power forward Laurence Ekperigin (201-88, college: Le Moyne) who scored 21 points. The former international Karim Souchu (198-79, college: Furman) chipped in 13 points. American power forward David Monds (205-83, college: Oklahoma St.) produced 15 points and 5 rebounds and Aurelien Salmon (203-87) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Boulazac Basket players scored in double figures. Poitiers maintains eleventh place with 11-12 record. Boulazac Basket at the other side keeps the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Poitiers' next round opponent will be league's second-placed JL Bourg at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Boulazac Basket will play against Denain Voltaire (#8) and hope to win that game.
