Regular Season Round 11: Panathinaikos - Ikaros 79-31

A1 top team - Panathinaikos (11-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Ikaros (2-10) in Athens 79-31. Panathinaikos held Ikaros to an opponent 19.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.1 percent accuracy of the winners. Panathinaikos forced 22 Ikaros turnovers and outrebounded them 47-30 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Ikaros' players. The best player for the winners was American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) who scored 21 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Her fellow American import guard Jacki Gemelos (182-88, college: USC) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Sofia Kiriakopoulou (185-81) produced 9 points and 6 rebounds and guard Roula Kalogirou (172-81) added 4 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panathinaikos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 11-1 record, which they share with AE Ellinikou. Ikaros lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with ten games lost. They share it with Kronos AD. Panathinaikos will meet Ippokratis (#4) in the next round. Ikaros will play against Proteas (#3) and hope to secure a win.
