Regular Season Round 15: Al Shamal - Al Ahli 78-89

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Doha: Al Ahli (#8) and Al Shamal (#9). Al Shamal was defeated at home 78-89 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Al Ahli dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Al Shamal's 42. Al Ahli had a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American-Nigerian power forward Alvin Mofunanya (203-87, college: Fair Dickinson) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 16 rebounds. Omar Ahmed Omar chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Tyvon Williams (182-87, college: S.Carolina St.) who recorded 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the other American import power forward Jonathan Huffman (213-86, college: Iona, agency: Gamble Sports Management) added 17 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Five Al Ahli and four Al Shamal players scored in double figures. Al Ahli maintains eighth place with 3-12 record. Al Shamal lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 13 games lost. Al Ahli's next round opponent will be higher ranked Al Wakrah (#7) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Qatar Sports Club.
