Regular Season Round 9: Barca CBS - Promete 70-79

Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Promete (6-3) defeated 11th ranked Barca CBS (1-8) in Barcelona 79-70 on Sunday. Barca CBS trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 24-22 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 70-79 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Barca CBS 40-29 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for Cameroonian Amina Njonkou (185-88, college: Arizona) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds. Cuban guard Licet Castillo (175-73) contributed with 13 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Center Meritxell Bellido (183-85) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and Gala Mestres added 15 points in the effort for Barca CBS. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Barca CBS's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Promete maintains fourth place in Group B with 6-3 record. Barca CBS lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with eight games lost. Promete will face Dist.Olimpico (#9) in Madrid in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Barca CBS will play on the road against CREF Hola in Madrid and hope to win that game.
