Regular Season Round 15: Maccabi Haifa - Bnei Hertzeliyya 89-84

Date: January 12, 2014
Very expected game when 10th ranked Bnei Hasharon (5-10) lost on the road to fourth ranked Maccabi Haifa (9-6) 89-84. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-18. But Bnei Hasharon won second period 26-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Haifa made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Ben Rice (195-90) who scored 25 points and 6 rebounds. American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (200-83, college: SE Illinois JC) chipped in 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Nigerian forward Ndudi Ebi (206-84, agency: Higher Vision Sports) who recorded 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) and American power forward Jakim Donaldson (204-83, college: Edinboro) added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 9-6 record. Bnei Hasharon lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with ten games lost. Maccabi Haifa's next round opponent will be Hapoel Eilat (#7) on the road. Bnei Hasharon will play against Maccabi Ashdod and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
