Regular Season Round 13: La Spezia - San Martino 85-59

Date: January 12, 2014
There was no surprise when 10th ranked San Martino (3-10) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked La Spezia (6-6) 85-59. The game without a history. La Spezia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. La Spezia forced 26 San Martino turnovers. American center Marie Malone (191-89, college: Hofstra, agency: Two Points) nailed 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Latvian power forward Lauma Reke (185-86, college: St.Peter's) accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four La Spezia players scored in double figures. Guard Valentina Stoppa (172-85) came up with 16 points and naturalized American forward Emily Correal (190-90, college: William & Mary, agency: Interperformances) added 6 points and 10 rebounds respectively for San Martino in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for La Spezia. Newly promoted La Spezia maintains seventh place with 6-6 record. San Martino lost their third game in a row. San Martino at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. La Spezia's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked C.U.S. Chieti (#12) on the road which should be theoretically another easy game. San Martino will play against Parma and hope to win that game.
