Regular Season Round 16: Flamengo - Basquete Cearense 72-69
Date: January 13, 2014
Twelfth-ranked SKY/Basquete (6-9) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Flamengo (10-3) in Rio de Janeiro. Flamengo managed to secure only three-point victory 72-69. However their fans expected much easier game. It looked good early as SKY/Basquete took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Flamengo had a 19-12 second period charge getting the lead and SKY/Basquete was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-72. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Marcelo Magalhaes (201-75, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 19 points. Argentinian point guard Nicolas Laprovittola (187-90) contributed with 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. American center DeVon Hardin (211-86) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Brandon Brown (178-89, college: Montana-West) added 18 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for SKY/Basquete. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. SKY/Basquete's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Flamengo have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. SKY/Basquete at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Universo/Goiania. Flamengo will play against Unitri (#6) in Uberlandia in the next round. SKY/Basquete will have a break next round.
