Argentina
Second Stage Round 9: Lanus - Quimsa 69-80
Date: January 13, 2014
Not a big story in a game in Buenos Aires where 16th ranked Lanus (1-8) was defeated by twelfth ranked Quimsa (4-5) 80-69. The game was mostly controlled by Quimsa. Lanus was better in fourth quarter 23-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lanus to just 6 points in second quarter. It was a good game for naturalized Italian center Damian Tintorelli (204-81) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. British-American Darren Phillip (201-78, college: Fairfield) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Quimsa players scored in double figures. American forward Lorrenzo Wade (198-85, college: San Diego St.) answered with 17 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import center Dee Proby (208-88, college: Oklahoma City) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Lanus. Quimsa moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Obras and Libertad S. Lanus lost their third game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Quimsa's next round opponent will be higher ranked GECR Indalo (#5) in Comodoro R. and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lanus will play at home against Atenas (#8) and hope to win that game.
