Regular Season Round 16: Qatar - Al Shamal 97-81

Date: January 14, 2014
Bottom-ranked Qatar Sports Club managed to get a second victory, breaking the four-game losing streak. This time they won against ninth-ranked Al Shamal in Doha 97-81. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 16-point difference proves that Qatar Sports Club was well-prepared to that game. It was a very good performance for American swingman Chauncey Leslie (183-81, college: Iowa) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. The other American import guard Melquan Bolding (190-88, college: Fair Dickinson) contributed with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American point guard Tommy Smith (182-90) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds and American-Jamaican guard Brian McKenzie (193-88, college: Providence) added 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Al Shamal. Four Al Shamal players scored in double figures. Qatar Sports Club (2-14) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Al Shamal. Al Shamal lost fourth consecutive game. Qatar Sports Club's next round opponent will be higher ranked Al Wakrah (#7) at home and it may be quite challenging game.
