Regular Season Round 16: Cape Breton - St.Francis X. 65-66

Date: January 14, 2014
The most exciting game of round 16 in the CIS took place in Sydney. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of much higher ranked Cape Breton (5-4) to fourth ranked St.Francis X. (5-6) 66-65 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cape Breton. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 12-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Cape Breton outrebounded St.Francis X. 29-0 including a 19- advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of center Kolbi Roper (188) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Nisia Minicocci (165) who added 21 points during the contest. At the losing side forward Colleen Keane (175) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and American point guard Tanira McClurkin (165) scored 20 points and 4 assists. Four Cape Breton players scored in double figures. Cape Breton's coach Fabian McKenzie rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. St.Francis X. maintains fourth position with 5-6 record. Cape Breton at the other side keeps the second place with four games lost. St.Francis X. are looking forward to face higher ranked Dalhousie (#3) in Halifax in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Cape Breton will have a break next round.
