Regular Season Round 13: Snaefell - Skallagrimur 84-98

We should mention about the upset which took place in Stykkisholmur, where 8th ranked Snaefell (5-8) lost at home to eleventh ranked Skallagrimur (3-10) 84-98 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Skallagrimur. Snaefell managed to win second period 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Skallagrimur shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. American point guard Benjamin Smith (178-87, college: Jacksonville) stepped up and scored 49 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and the former international swingman Pall Axel Vilbergsson (197-78) chipped in 30 points. Skallagrimur's coach Palmi Seavarsson used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international forward Sigurdur Thorvaldsson (201-80) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Sveinn Davidsson (192-86) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Snaefell players scored in double figures. Skallagrimur moved-up to ninth place, which they share with IR and KFI. Snaefell lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with eight games lost. Skallagrimur will meet at home higher ranked Stjarnan (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Snaefell will play against the league's leader KR having rather not much hope for a victory.
