Regular Season Round 17: Paulistano - Minas 80-66
Date: January 16, 2014
No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Paulistano (11-4) beat 13th ranked Minas (5-9) in Sao Paolo 80-66. It looked good early as Minas took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Paulistano had a 21-16 second period charge getting the lead and Minas was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 66-80. Paulistano made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Desmond Holloway (190-90, college: Co.Carolina) who scored 22 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Cesar Araujo (201-81) chipped in 17 points. The former international Betinho Nardi Duarte (195-88) produced 21 points and the former international point guard Elinho Corazza (193-89, college: Miami Dade CC) added 9 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Paulistano. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Pinheiros/Sky and Limeira. Minas at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Paulistano's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Espirito Santo (#17) in Vila Velha which should be an easy win for them. Minas will play on the road against Liga Sorocaba (#16) in Sorocabana and hope to win that game.
