Regular Season Round 13: Grindavik - Haukar 91-60
Date: January 16, 2014
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Grindavik (9-4) smashed at home 6th ranked Haukar (7-6) 91-60. The game without a history. Grindavik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Haukar's 34. They outrebounded Haukar 55-28 including a 48-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Grindavik players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. The former international center Sigurdur Thorsteinsson (204-88) nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winning side and American-Dominican guard Lewis Clinch (191-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: KMG Sports Management) accounted for 13 points and 9 assists. Guard Sigurdur Einarsson (187-82) came up with 14 points and forward Helgi Einarsson (195-89) added 7 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Haukar in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Grindavik have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains third place with 9-4 record having just three points less than leader KR, which they share with Njardvik. Newly promoted Haukar keeps the sixth position with six games lost. Grindavik's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Valur (#12) in Reykjavik and are hoping to win another game. Haukar will play at home against IR (#10) and hope to win that game.
