Regular Season Round 14: Wildcats - Breakers 97-72
Date: January 17, 2014
NBL top team - Perth Wildcats (15-3) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed seventh ranked New Zealand Breakers (6-11) 97-72. The game was mostly controlled by Perth Wildcats. New Zealand Breakers managed to win third quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international forward Shawn Redhage (203-81, college: Arizona St., agency: Warren Sports International) notched 24 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and American guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) supported him with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Perth Wildcats players scored in double figures. Perth Wildcats' coach Trevor Gleeson felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 21 points and 6 rebounds by American power forward Gary Wilkinson (204-82, college: Utah St.) did not help to save the game for New Zealand Breakers. His fellow American import point guard Kerron Johnson (185-90, college: Belmont) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Perth Wildcats have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 15-3 record. Defending champion New Zealand Breakers keep the seventh place with 11 games lost. Perth Wildcats will meet at home Melbourne Tigers (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. New Zealand Breakers will play against Wollongong Hawks (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
