Regular Season Round 19: Alberta - Lethbridge 88-98

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Golden Bears (11-2) in Edmonton, AB on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Pronghorn (8-4) 98-88. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Golden Bears. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 32-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Pronghorn looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Golden Bears helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Australian forward Brandon Brine (198) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Alex Fletcher (185) contributed with 20 points and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Pronghorn's coach Mike Hansen used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international guard Jordan Baker (192-91, college: Utah Valley) answered with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Joel Friesen (193) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Golden Bears. Four Pronghorn and five Golden Bears players scored in double figures. Pronghorn moved-up to third place, which they share with Laurentian. Golden Bears at the other side still keep top position with two games lost. They share it with Victoria and Ryerson. Pronghorn will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Golden Bears will play again on the road against Pronghorn in Lethbridge, AB and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
