Very important is a road loss of third ranked Cougars (7-6) against sixth ranked Thunderbirds (6-7) on Friday night. Visiting Cougars were crushed by Thunderbirds in Vancouver, BC 76-55. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cougars. The game was mostly controlled by Thunderbirds. Cougars was better in fourth quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Thunderbirds forced 20 Cougars turnovers and had a 27-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. It was a very good performance for forward David Wagner (206-92) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Kedar Wright (188) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Guard Deng Awak (190) answered with 6 points and 8 rebounds and forward Mangk Akwl (196) added 9 points and 4 steals in the effort for Cougars. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Thunderbirds moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Cougars keep the third position with six games lost. Thunderbirds will face again Cougars (#3) in Calgary, AB in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
