Regular Season Round 17: St.Francis X. - Dalhousie 77-63

Date: January 17, 2014
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Antigonish where 3rd placed Dalhousie (5-5) was defeated by fourth ranked St.Francis X. (5-6) 77-63 on Friday. Dalhousie was trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 26-11 charge of St.Francis X., which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when St.Francis X. made 8 blocks. Forward Lia St.Pierre (183) stepped up and scored 18 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals for the winners and center Kolbi Roper (188) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four St.Francis X. players scored in double figures. Forward Tessa Stammberger (178) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Courtney Thompson (175) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Dalhousie's coach Anna Stammberger let to play eleven players saving starting five for next games. St.Francis X. maintains fourth place with 5-6 record, which they share with Cape Breton. Loser Dalhousie dropped to the second position with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
