Regular Season Round 17: Alberta - Lethbridge 77-55

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Pandas as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Pandas smashed 5th ranked Lethbridge in Edmonton 77-55. The game was mostly controlled by Pandas. Lethbridge managed to win fourth quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lethbridge to just 7 points in first quarter. Pandas made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Lethbridge 40-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Forward Kendra Asleson (183-91) stepped up and scored 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and guard Renee Byrne (178) chipped in 16 points. Pandas' coach Scott Edwards felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Ali Cameron (163) responded with 19 points and forward Kimberley Veldman (188) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Pandas (12-2) have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Regina and Laurier. Lethbridge at the other side keeps the fifth place with nine games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Lethbridge will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Pandas will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Lethbridge at home.
