Regular Season Round 17: Bishop's - UQAM 36-67

Date: January 17, 2014
Everything went according to plan in Sherbrooke where second ranked Citadins (6-2) outscored bottom-ranked Gaiters (0-6) 67-36 on Friday. The game without a history. Citadins led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Gaiters to just 4 points in first quarter and to 14 points in first half. Citadins held Gaiters to an opponent 23.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 49.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Citadins forced 26 Gaiters turnovers and had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Citadins made 8 blocks. Center Jessica Lubin stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners and French forward Juliette Delaune (177-91) chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds. Ecuadorian point guard Edith Nobelecilla Varela (163-90) responded with 5 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Catherine Rondeau (163) scored 4 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Citadins. They maintain second place with 6-2 record having ten points less than leader McGill. Gaiters lost their sixth game in a row. They still closes the standings with six games lost. Citadins will have a break next round. Gaiters will play again on the road against the league's second-placed Citadins (#2) in Montreal and hope to get finally their first victory.
