Regular Season Round 20: UPEI - Acadia 88-80

There was a change at the CIS leadership position after last games. Round 20 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Axemen (8-3). They were defeated by fifth ranked Panthers (6-6) 88-80 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Axemen. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-80. Panthers made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 25 Axemen turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Deontay Smith (183) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and point guard Ellis Ffrench (180) who added 19 points and 5 assists during the contest. Panthers' coach Tim Kendrick used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Owen Klassen (208-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and Kyle Arseneault (196) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Panthers maintains fifth position with 6-6 record. Axemen at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. They share the position with UNB. They were replaced at the leadership position by McMaster. Axemen will play next round against strong Huskies trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Panthers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
