Pinheiros (#4) was upset in Sao Paolo by seventh ranked Sao Jose/Vinac 95-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pinheiros. It looked good early as Pinheiros took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Sao Jose/Vinac had a 27-18 second period charge getting the lead and Pinheiros was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 77-95. Sao Jose/Vinac made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Sao Jose/Vinac outrebounded Pinheiros 37-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. The former international Jefferson Andrade (207-83) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and American-Dominican point guard Emmanuel Quezada (188-85, college: USF) supported him with 24 points and 8 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Even 20 points by naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Pinheiros. American point guard Joe Smith (192-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) added 13 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pinheiros' coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Sao Jose/Vinac maintains seventh position with 9-7 record. Pinheiros at the other side dropped to the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Limeira. Sao Jose/Vinac will play against Liga Sorocaba (#16) in Sorocabana in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pinheiros will play on the road against Winner/Limeira (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
