Regular Season Round 20: TWU - UBC Okanagan 92-70
Date: January 18, 2014
Not a big story in a game in Langley, BC where 8th ranked Heat (3-11) was rolled over by fifth ranked Spartans (7-7) 92-70 on Saturday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Spartans dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Heat's 26. Spartans forced 19 Heat turnovers and outrebounded them 44-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Denny McDonald (198) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) and guard Justin Bakuteka (183) who added 20 points during the contest. Four Spartans players scored in double figures. Guard Mitch Goodwin (188) responded with 18 points and guard Landry Ndayitwayeko (190) scored 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Spartans moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Queen's. Loser Heat keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
