Regular Season Round 13: Zamora - Conquero 53-79
Date: January 18, 2014
Rather predictable result in Zamora where ninth ranked Conquero (6-7) outscored bottom-ranked Zamarat (2-11) 79-53. It looked good early as Zamarat took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Conquero had a 22-12 second period charge getting the lead and Zamarat was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 53-79. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Zamarat to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Conquero made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Romanian forward Claudia Pop (182-89) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Croatian center Ivona Bogoje (193-76, agency: IPSA) contributed with 13 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Conquero players scored in double figures. Guard Maria Ylenia Manzanares (175-83) answered with 6 points and 11 rebounds and American swingman Shameka Christon (186-82, college: Arkansas, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 11 points in the effort for Zamarat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Conquero moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Zamarat lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Conquero will play against Socinsa Bembibre (#6) at home in the next round. Zamarat will play against Cadi ICG S. (#5) in Seu D'urgell and hopes to get back on the winning track.
