Regular Season Round 18: Bayi - Liaoning 71-67

There was a minor upset in Yinzhou where 7th ranked Liaoning Hengye (9-8) was defeated by ninth ranked Bayi Kylin (7-11) 71-67 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-13. But Liaoning Hengye won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Liaoning Hengye 40-25 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Lu Wen (188-90) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. The former international center Lisha Chen (195-82) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Jayne Appel (193-88, college: Stanford) who recorded 27 points and 7 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international forward Zengyu Ma (183-84) added 19 points and 7 steals respectively. Bayi Kylin maintains ninth position with 7-11 record. Loser Liaoning Hengye keeps the seventh place with eight games lost. Bayi Kylin will meet bottom-ranked Shenyang Golden Lions (#12) in the next round. Liaoning Hengye will play against Zhejiang Far East (#5) in Hangzhou and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
