Regular Season Round 14: Hawks - Taipans 77-79

The most exciting game of round 14 in the NBL took place in Gwynneville. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Wollongong Hawks (6-10) to sixth ranked Cairns Taipans (7-11) 79-77 in the game for the fifth place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Wollongong Hawks. The guests trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 28-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. American guard Demetri McCamey (191-89, college: Illinois) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international swingman Stephen Weigh (198-87) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Kevin Tiggs (193-84, college: E.Tenn.St.) replied with 27 points and his fellow American import guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) added 15 points in the effort for Wollongong Hawks. Four Cairns Taipans and five Wollongong Hawks players scored in double figures. Cairns Taipans moved-up to fifth place. Wollongong Hawks at the other side dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. Cairns Taipans are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Townsville Crocodiles (#8) in Wulguru in the next round. Wollongong Hawks will play at home against Melbourne Tigers and are hoping to win this game.
