There was a minor upset when higher ranked Ravenna (9-8) was defeated at home by eleventh ranked P.Mantovana (9-8) 78-73 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ravenna won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. P.Mantovana shot 66.7 percent from the field and made 90-of-93 free shots (96.8 percent) during the game. P.Mantovana forced 26 Ravenna turnovers and outrebounded them 98-85 including 36 on the offensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 52 long-distance shots on high 76.5 percentage. P.Mantovana looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when P.Mantovana made 22 blocks. Ravenna was plagued by 92 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American power forward Johndre Jefferson (207-88, college: S.Carolina, agency: Three Eye Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 18 rebounds. Naturalized American guard Mike Nardi (186-85, college: Villanova) chipped in 20 points and 5 assists. point guard Eugenio Rivali (178-86, agency: Two Points) produced 20 points, 7 assists and 6 steals and forward Giorgio Broglia (198-86, agency: Interperformances) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five P.Mantovana and four Ravenna players scored in double figures. P.Mantovana moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Ravenna. Ravenna lost their third game in a row. P.Mantovana will face Firenze (#14) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
