BJ League top team - Akita Happinets (26-4) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat seventh ranked Sendai 89ers (12-14) 102-90. The game was mostly controlled by Akita Happinets. Sendai 89ers managed to win second period 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Akita Happinets made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by American forward Ruben Boykin (201-85, college: N.Arizona) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Shigehiro Taguchi (184-90) supported him with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds by American guard Wendell Wendell (198-84, college: UNLV) did not help to save the game for Sendai 89ers. Guard Takehiko Takehiko (160-83) added 12 points and 15 assists for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Akita Happinets have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 26-4 record. Loser Sendai 89ers keep the seventh place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Aomori Watts. Akita Happinets will meet Takamatsu FA (#5) on the road in the next round. Sendai 89ers will play against Shimane Magic and hope to secure a win.
