Fourteenth-ranked Argentino (3-9) gave a tough game to first ranked Penarol (11-1) in Junin on Wednesday. The visitors from Mar del Plata managed to secure only three-point victory 78-75. However their fans expected much easier game. Argentino trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 19-10 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 75-78 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Argentino 37-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Martin Leiva (211-80) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) who added 21 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was Marcos Saglietti (19-86) with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Marcus Melvin (205-82, college: N.Carolina St.) scored 18 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Penarol have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 11-1 record, which they share with Regatas C. Argentino lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Lanus. Penarol is looking forward to face Wuber-Est.Bahia (#12) in Bahia Blanca in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Argentino will play on the road against Quilmes MP in Mar del Plata and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
