Regular Season Round 27: Nitra - Iskra Svit 92-78

Date: January 22, 2014
Rather expected game when 5th ranked Iskra Svit (14-10) lost on the road to second ranked Nitra (18-6) 92-78 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Nitra. Iskra Svit was better in third quarter 27-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Nitra forced 19 Iskra Svit turnovers. Iskra Svit was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Slovenian center Salih Nuhanovic (210-82) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 4 blocks. Croatian guard Sven Smajlagic (190-90) contributed with 18 points for the winners. American guard Wesley Channels (190-88, college: Austin Peay St.) answered with 19 points and 6 assists and the other American import center Tyrone McNeal (213-85) added 21 points in the effort for Iskra Svit. Five Nitra and four Iskra Svit players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nitra maintains second place with 18-6 record behind leader Inter Bratislava. Iskra Svit at the other side keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Nitra will face Handlova (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Iskra Svit will play against SKP Banska Bystrica and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
