Regular Season Round 27: Handlova - Prievidza 72-77 OT
Date: January 22, 2014
Seventh-ranked Handlova (8-15) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Prievidza (17-7) on Wednesday. The visitors from Prievidza managed to secure only five-point victory 77-72. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 16-11 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 13-8. Prievidza forced 24 Handlova turnovers. It was a good game for British swingman Paul Guede (195-87, college: Portland St., agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 5 rebounds. Croatian swingman Marko Batina (198-86) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Montenegrin guard Milos Djurisic (194-88) answered with 24 points and 6 rebounds and Serbian forward Aleksandar Vuletic (202-86, college: Indian Hills CC) added 16 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Handlova. Handlova's coach Ludovit Smacko tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Prievidza maintains third place with 17-7 record having just two points less than leader Inter Bratislava. Handlova lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 15 games lost. Prievidza will face bottom-ranked Nova Ves (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Handlova will play against the league's second-placed Nitra and hope to win that game.
