Regular Season Round 19: Waterloo - Laurier 52-76
Date: January 22, 2014
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Waterloo: Laurier (#2) and Waterloo (#8). Waterloo was crushed at home by 24 points 52-76 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Laurier. Waterloo managed to win second period 17-7. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Laurier forced 23 Waterloo turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Laurier made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for forward Doreen Bonsu (168) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Courtney Bruce (175) accounted for 13 points for the winning side. Four Laurier players scored in double figures. point guard Emily Wilk (173) came up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and guard Marti Killeen (180) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Waterloo in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Laurier have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Windsor. Waterloo lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 13 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
