Regular Season Round 14: Skallagrimur - Stjarnan 97-94

A very close game took place in Borgarnes between Skallagrimur and Stjarnan. Eleventh ranked Skallagrimur (4-10) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Stjarnan (7-7). Skallagrimur managed to escape with a 3-point win 97-94 on Thursday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Stjarnan won fourth quarter 29-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Skallagrimur made 21-of-22 free shots (95.5 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. Skallagrimur looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American point guard Benjamin Smith (178-87, college: Jacksonville) notched a double-double by scoring 29 points, 8 rebounds and 14 assists (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and the former international swingman Pall Axel Vilbergsson (197-78) supported him with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Even 28 points by Marvin Valdimarsson (198-81) did not help to save the game for Stjarnan. International point guard Justin Shouse (181-81, college: Mercyhurst) added 21 points and 8 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the guests. Four Stjarnan players scored in double figures. Stjarnan's coach Teitur Orlygsson tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Skallagrimur moved-up to ninth place, which they share with IR. Loser Stjarnan keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. They share it with Haukar. Skallagrimur will meet KFI (#11) in the next round. Stjarnan will play against the league's leader KR (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
