Everything could happen in Auckland at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked New Zealand Breakers and 7th ranked Wollongong Hawks had identical 6-11 record. This time New Zealand Breakers used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Gwynneville 106-101. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Wollongong Hawks won third quarter 29-26. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. New Zealand Breakers made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. New Zealand Breakers players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Wollongong Hawks helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 6 rebounds. American power forward Gary Wilkinson (204-82, college: Utah St.) contributed with 20 points and 4 assists for the winners. American swingman Kevin Tiggs (193-84, college: E.Tenn.St.) answered with 24 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and the other American import guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) added 23 points in the effort for Wollongong Hawks. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion (7-11) moved-up to sixth place. Wollongong Hawks lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 12 games lost. New Zealand Breakers' next round opponent will be higher ranked Kings (#4) in Sydney and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wollongong Hawks will play on the road against Townsville Crocodiles in Wulguru and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
