There was no surprise when 8th ranked Logan Thunder (6-14) was defeated on the road by first ranked Bendigo Spirit (18-2) 71-57 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 40-22 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Bendigo Spirit dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Logan Thunder's 24. They outrebounded Logan Thunder 47-25 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international center Elyse Penaluna (193-88) who added 22 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Bendigo Spirit players scored in double figures. Bendigo Spirit's coach Bernie Harrower allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side the former international guard Kristen Veal (176-81) responded with 8 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Laurie Koehn (173-82, college: Kansas St.) scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. Bendigo Spirit maintains first position with 18-2 record. Logan Thunder lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 14 games lost. Bendigo Spirit will face Sydney Uni Flames (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Logan Thunder will play against Adelaide Lightning and hope to win that game.
