We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 7th ranked Thunderbirds (4-11) lost to eighth ranked Blues (3-12) in Sault Ste. Marie, ON 69-76 on Friday. Thunderbirds trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 29-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 69-76 at the end of the game. Blues made 29-of-37 free shots (78.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Thunderbirds turnovers. Thunderbirds were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for naturalized Greek guard Alex Hill (196-90, college: Cornell) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 8 rebounds. point guard Nicholas Burke (183) contributed with 9 points for the winners. Terrell Campbell (196-90) replied with 24 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Jimmy Bilenga (183-91) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Thunderbirds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Blues maintains eighth position with 3-12 record, which they share with Manitoba and UBC Okanagan. Loser Thunderbirds dropped to the sixth place with 11 games lost. Blues will face higher ranked Voyageurs (#4) in Sudbury, ON in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
