The game between closely ranked teams ended with 7th ranked Timberwolves' (4-11) home loss to sixth ranked Thunderbirds (7-7) in Prince George, BC 79-99 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Thunderbirds. Timberwolves was better in third quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Thunderbirds dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Timberwolves' 34. They outrebounded Timberwolves 40-26 including 30 on the defensive glass. Thunderbirds looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Timberwolves' players. It was a very good performance for forward Tommy Nixon (198) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Tonner Jackson (201) contributed with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. British-Cameroonian forward Franck Kouagnia (201) replied with 24 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Jeff Chu (183) added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Timberwolves. Four Timberwolves players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Thunderbirds have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Mount Royal. Timberwolves lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with 11 games lost. Thunderbirds will have a break next round. Timberwolves will play again on the road against Thunderbirds (#3) in Vancouver, BC and hope to win that game.
