Rather predictable result when third ranked Sao Jose (5-2) smashed at home 7th ranked Rio Claro (1-6) 84-55 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Sao Jose. Rio Claro was better in second period 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Rio Claro to just 7 points in third quarter. Sao Jose dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Rio Claro's 32. Sao Jose forced 21 Rio Claro turnovers and outrebounded them 36-23 including 22 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Rio Claro's players. Sao Jose have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 5-2 record behind leader Recife, which they share with Maranhao. Rio Claro lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with six games lost. Sao Jose will face again Rio Claro (#7) on the road in the next round. Rio Claro will play against Santo Andre and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
