Regular Season Round 27: Shanxi Zh. - Guangsha L. 91-92

Date: January 24, 2014
Sixteenth-ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (7-20) used its home court advantage to challenge seventh ranked Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (16-11) in Taiyuan. The visitors from Hangzhou managed to secure only one-point victory 92-91. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 3-point deficit before their 30-26 run, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Zirui Wang (190-93) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). American point guard Jonathan Gibson (188-87, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Three Eye Sports) chipped in 23 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Marcus Williams (200-86, college: Arizona, agency: Interperformances) who recorded 30 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) added 15 points and 17 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions moved-up to fifth place, which they share with TianJin S. and Shanghai S. Shanxi Zhongyu at the other side keeps the sixteenth position with 20 games lost. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Qingdao Eagles (#18) at home which should be an easy win for them. Shanxi Zhongyu will play against the league's leader Guandong Tigers in Dongguan and hope to win that game.
