Okapi Aalstar (#5) forced the game against Oostende (#1) into an overtime, but lost by one point 82-83 on Friday night. The game took place in Aalst. But the guests from Oostende were better at the end. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 19-9 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 12-11. Oostende made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Okapi Aalstar was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Ryan Thompson (198-89, college: Rider) who scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Brent Wright (203-78, college: Florida) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Samoan-American power forward John Tofi (203-84, college: UTEP) produced 21 points and 9 rebounds and American Lee Cummard (201-85, college: BYU, agency: Priority Sports) added 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) respectively for the hosts. Four Okapi Aalstar players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Oostende (12-3) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place. Okapi Aalstar at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Oostende will face Leuven Bears (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Okapi Aalstar will play against Kangoeroes in Willebroek and hope to win that game.
