Regular Season Round 27: TianJin S. - Jilin NE T. 118-92
Date: January 24, 2014
Very predictable result when sixth ranked TianJin Steel (16-11) rolled over 14th ranked Jilin Tigers (9-18) in Tianjin 118-92 on Friday. The game without a history. TianJin Steel led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Jilin Tigers' 42. TianJin Steel forced 23 Jilin Tigers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Jilin Tigers were plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Shelden Williams (206-83, college: Duke) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Jordanian forward Zaid Abbas (203-83) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Five TianJin Steel players scored in double figures. American power forward Denzel Bowles (208-89, college: JMU) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward Leon Rodgers (201-80, college: N.Illinois) added 24 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Jilin Tigers. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for TianJin Steel. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Shanghai S. and Guangsha L. Loser Jilin Tigers keep the fourteenth position with 18 games lost. TianJin Steel will face Shandong Bulls (#10) in Jinan in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Jilin Tigers will play on the road against Beijing Ducks (#3) and hope to win that game.
