Regular Season Round 22: Regina - Manitoba 58-84
Date: January 24, 2014
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 7th ranked Cougars (4-11) were outleveled by eighth ranked Bisons (3-12) in Regina, SK 84-58 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Bisons. Cougars was better in fourth quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bisons dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Cougars' 34. They outrebounded Cougars 55-33 including a 23-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for forward Dan Penner (201) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Wyatt Anders (201) contributed with 8 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Guard Brandon Tull (193) replied with 8 points and 5 rebounds and forward Will Tallman (203) added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cougars. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Bisons maintains eighth position with 3-12 record, which they share with Toronto and UBC Okanagan. Cougars lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with 11 games lost. Bisons will face league's second-placed Stingers in Montreal, QC in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
