There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Tenerife (4-7) won against at home higher ranked Segle XXI (6-5) 60-55 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 35-27 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Tenerife outrebounded Segle XXI 44-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was point guard Isabel Martinez-Vara (173-96) who scored 21 points. Lithuanian guard Vitalija Vasciunaite (175-88, college: Cal.Baptist, agency: Promotex) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Angela Salvadores (178-97) produced 16 points and 5 rebounds and Clara Che added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Segle XXI's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Tenerife moved-up to seventh place in Group B, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Segle XXI keeps the fifth position with five games lost. Tenerife will face league's leader Gernika at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
