Everything went according to plan when fourteenth ranked Minas (6-10) defeated bottom-ranked Espirito Santo (3-12) in Belo Horizonte 73-62 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Minas. Espirito Santo was better in second period 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Minas forced 23 Espirito Santo turnovers. Espirito Santo was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Dominican center Otis George (205-82, college: Louisville) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard Elinho Corazza (193-89, college: Miami Dade CC) contributed with 12 points and 6 assists for the winners. Power forward Daniel Costa (204-81) replied with 15 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and forward Cicero Gonzaga (202-86, college: NE Oklahoma A&M CC) added 8 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Espirito Santo. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Minas moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Bauru. Espirito Santo lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Minas will face Paschoalotto/Bauru (#12) on the road in the next round.
