There was no surprise when 14th ranked Macae (6-12) was outleveled on the road by sixth ranked Brasilia (11-7) 96-71 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-71. Brasilia made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Macae's players. Center Ronald Reis (210-91) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds. International guard Alex Ribeiro (191-80, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 26 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Brasilia players scored in double figures. Brasilia's coach Sergio Hernandez felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) replied with 20 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the former international Marcio Dornelles (194-75) added 13 points in the effort for Macae. Brasilia will face SKY/Basquete (#10) in Aldeota in the next round where they are favorite. Macae will play at home against Pinheiros (#6) and hope to win that game.
