Regular Season Round 28: Handlova - Nitra 79-72

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Nitra (18-7) against seventh ranked Handlova (9-15) on Saturday night. Visiting Nitra was defeated by Handlova in a tough game in Handlova 72-79. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Nitra won fourth quarter 17-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Handlova forced 19 Nitra turnovers. Nitra was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by Serbian forward Aleksandar Vuletic (202-86, college: Indian Hills CC) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and Montenegrin guard Milos Djurisic (194-88) supported him with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Handlova's coach Ludovit Smacko allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 19 points by American forward Elton Frazier (198-88, college: Canisius) did not help to save the game for Nitra. Croatian guard Sven Smajlagic (190-90) added 15 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Four Nitra players scored in double figures. Handlova maintains seventh position with 9-15 record. Nitra at the other side keeps the second place with seven games lost. They share the position with Prievidza. Handlova will play against higher ranked Iskra Svit (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Nitra will play against Nova Ves and hopes to get back on the winning track.
