Regular Season Round 11: Victoria - Olimpia 59-98

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Grodno: Olimpia GrGAU (#2) and Victoria (#7). Victoria was crushed at home by 39 points 59-98 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Olimpia GrGAU. Victoria managed to win third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Victoria to just 5 points in first quarter. Olimpia GrGAU dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Victoria's 38. Olimpia GrGAU forced 23 Victoria turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Victoria's players. The former international Maryia Filonchyk (187-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points. Russian-Ukrainian center Lyubov Alyoshkina (203-81) contributed with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Five Olimpia GrGAU players scored in double figures. Forward Hanna Tsarevich (178-95) answered with 23 points and Viyaleta Kiuliak (186-96) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Victoria. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains second place with 9-2 record behind leader Gorizont. Victoria at the other side still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Olimpia GrGAU are looking forward to face league's leader Gorizont in Minsk in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Victoria will play at home against BrGU COR Victoria (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
