Regular Season Round 21: Guelph - Laurier 66-64
Date: January 25, 2014
Important game to mention about took place in Guelph. Seventh ranked Guelph (6-10) saved a 2-point derby victory at home edging second-best Laurier (13-3) 66-64 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Laurier. Laurier was ahead by 4 points after three quarters before a 18-12 charge of Guelph, which allowed them to win the game. They made 22-of-27 charity shots (81.5 percent) during the game. It was a good game for forward Katherine Mactavish (183) who led her team to a victory with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (went 14 for 14 at the free throw line !!!). point guard Marlee Freeman (168) contributed with 12 points for the winners. Center Whitney Ellenor (190-91, college: Canisius) answered with 16 points and forward Doreen Bonsu (168) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Laurier. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Guelph have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 6-10 record. Laurier at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Saskatchewan and UFV. Guelph will play against higher ranked Mustangs (#3) in London in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Laurier will play on the road against the league's leader Lancers where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
